ABOUT the Black Hills Explorers

Black Hills Explorers

Purpose:
We are not just a “hiking club.”  We explore new knowledge, activities and places in the Black Hills.  However, these explorations will sometimes include some form of foot travel.  Mild-weather activities will be primarily outdoors; but some winter-weather explorations will be scheduled indoors.

Leader:
The Explorers’ founder and current leader is Lee Alley  605.863.0806

Participation Qualifications:
To participate, you should sign up in the Canyon Lake Center’s office 8- M-F.  First-signed up is first-seated on the van.

Any one, any age, who is in moderately good health and able to walk several miles in one day, and able to walk up short steep trail segments.  Unless stated otherwise, activities are rated “moderate”.  Trail surfaces can be uneven, rocky, slippery, so hiking poles and high top boots are always recommended.  All activities are, like the Canyon Lake Center, multi-generational.  Bring your grandchildren and grandparents!
